Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr., widely recognized as 6lack (stylized as 6LACK and pronounced "black"), is an American singer, rapper, and songwriter. Born on June 24, 1992, in Baltimore, Maryland, and later raised in Atlanta, Georgia, he first came into prominence with his 2016 single "Prblms." This track not only debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 but also set the stage for his first studio album, "Free 6lack," released in November of that year through Love Renaissance and Interscope Records. The album was a critical success, earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album and achieving platinum status from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

In 2018, 6lack's musical journey continued with the release of his second studio album, "East Atlanta Love Letter," which climbed to number three on the Billboard 200 chart. That year, he also dropped the single "OTW" in collaboration with Khalid and Ty Dolla Sign and featured on Normani's single "Waves," earning an MTV Video Music Award for his contributions. His musical exploration expanded in June 2020 with the release of his debut extended play (EP) "6pc Hot," which included the single "Know My Rights" featuring Lil Baby. The same year saw him perform alongside Elton John on Gorillaz's single "The Pink Phantom." In 2021, he achieved his highest-charting single with "Calling My Phone" (in collaboration with Lil Tjay), reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and charting on the Canadian Hot 100. His third album, "Since I Have a Lover" (2023), was met with moderate critical and commercial success.

Beyond his solo career, 6lack is a member of the Atlanta-Baltimore music collective Spillage Village, founded by EarthGang and JID. His career boasts three Grammy Award nominations and an MTV Video Music Award.
