Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, known collectively as Torvill and Dean, are celebrated English ice dancers who have clinched titles as British, European, Olympic, and World champions. Their remarkable performance at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics saw them capture gold and set records as the highest-scoring figure skaters for a single program, earning twelve perfect scores of 6.0 and six scores of 5.9, including top marks for artistic impression from all judges, to the music of Maurice Ravel's Boléro. This event remains one of the UK's most viewed TV moments, drawing over 24 million British viewers.

Following their historic performance, they achieved even higher scores at the 1984 World Championships. Post-world championships, they turned professional but briefly returned to amateur status in 1994 to participate once more in the Olympics. They retired from competitive skating in 1998, concluding their career with a tour called Ice Adventures and a season with Stars on Ice, performing a routine to Paul Simon's "Still Crazy After All These Years," which they originally created for competition.

The duo continued their close friendship but did not perform together until coaxed out of retirement for ITV's Dancing on Ice. Their story was depicted in the 2018 biographical film Torvill & Dean. Hailing from Nottingham, England, their legacy is commemorated in the city with the National Ice Centre's entrance plaza named Bolero Square, and a housing estate in Wollaton with streets named 'Torvill Drive' and 'Dean Close.' Additionally, a 2002 Channel 4 poll in the UK recognized their Olympic win as one of the 100 Greatest Sporting Moments, placing eighth in the rankings.
